Saving and reloading your work

Nothing you do in the editor is uploaded, so nothing is saved on a server either. Your work lives in two places: the browser's own storage, and a state file you can write whenever you like.

What is saved automatically

Every change to a clip is written to the browser's local storage as you make it: in and out points, rotation, tilt, mirror, crop, size and format, colour, patches, the output name, and whether the clip has been exported. The key is the file's name and size, so the same file dropped in again tomorrow, or from a different folder, picks its settings straight back up.

The videos themselves are never copied. Close the tab and the files are gone from memory, but the settings stay.

Getting the videos back

On Chrome and Edge the editor can remember which folders and files you opened. After a reload, Reopen at the top of the empty stage brings them all back after one permission prompt, which Chrome can make permanent. Safari and Firefox do not offer this, so there you add the folder again; the settings still apply.

Save state: a file you keep

Browser storage is not a backup. A cleared browser profile, a "clear site data" click, or private browsing wipes it without asking. For anything that took more than a few minutes, write a state file:

It contains the settings of every clip this browser has ever been given, not only the ones open now, so it is a complete backup rather than a snapshot of the session. It holds no video, so it is small and safe to keep anywhere.

Load state

Loading merges: clips in the file overwrite the same clips in the browser, clips not in the file are left alone.

Questions

Can I share a state file with someone else?

Yes, as long as they have the same video files with the same names and sizes. That is how the editor matches settings to clips.

What does Clear list do?

It empties the clip list and forgets the remembered folders. Trims and names are kept and come back when a file is added again. To actually reset a clip, select it and press Reset (T).

Does a state file include the patches?

Yes, including the frame each patch was sampled from, so a clone patch bakes the same way when the clip comes back.
