Remove audio from a video

Mute a video for good. The audio track comes out and the picture is copied untouched, in your browser.

Choose a video .mov, .mp4 or .m4v. It stays on this device.

How it works

  1. Choose the video.
  2. Press Remove audio.
  3. Save the silent copy.

Muting a clip in a player or in the Photos app turns the volume down but leaves the sound in the file, and it plays again for anyone you send it to. This tool drops the audio track itself, so the file is genuinely silent everywhere. The video is copied without re-encoding.

Questions

Does it lose quality?
No. The video stream is copied across untouched, so the picture is bit for bit the same as the original.

Can I remove the audio from an iPhone video?
Yes, and this is the quickest way. Open the page on the phone, pick the clip from Photos, remove the audio and save it back to Photos.

Can I remove only part of the audio?
Not here. Trim out the section in the full editor, export it with the audio removed, and rejoin the pieces.

Will the file be smaller?
A little. Audio is usually a few percent of a video file.

Is my video uploaded?
Not unless you choose "On our server". By default everything runs inside your browser and the file never leaves your device. The server option uploads the clip, processes it and deletes it right after the download.

Is there a size limit?
In the browser the clip has to fit in memory, which on a phone means roughly up to a few hundred megabytes. Larger files run fine with "On our server".
